Carving in wood is a great way to spend your time, making something beautiful and is highly gratifying. The right tools are needed but to start with you may not need huge amounts of tools but add to your collection as you learn and purchase the tools as you expand you projects.

A typical starter set of carving tools recommended would be 3/8" skew chisel, four gouges ranging from 1/4" to 3/4" and a 1/4" veiner.

There are many different carving tool shapes. Robert Sorby offer 24 of the most universally used tools, coupled with 12 in miniature form and 6 sculpture tools. They are manufactured from special Sheffield alloy steel unique for edge tool manufacture. They offer excellent balance because of thinner blade sections. The tools also under go stringent heat treatment process to ensure the finest edge retention. They are polished to a razor sharp edge ready for use.

The many thousands of different carving tool shapes and sweeps are a mine field for the beginner but Robert Sorby have simplified this choice by only offering 24 of the most universally used chisels. These Robert Sorby Micro Carving Tools are comfortable palm carving tools and are ideal for the fine detail and miniature carving. Manufactured to the same exacting standards as the full size Carving Tools, they have precision closed-die forgings to ensure accurate shape and size of every blade. Their highly polished blades protect against rusting with cutting edges honed and buffed ready for immediate use. The handle size means that these micro tools are comfortable for prolonged use.

Available as Square Chisel, Skew Chisel, Dog Leg Chisel, Straight Gouges, Bent Gouges, Veiner and V Parting Tools with various blade sizes.

Overall length - 6 1/2"

Available in a set of 12 in a polished wooden case which stores the tools "topped & tailed" for carrying. The case can also act as a free standing cabinet when in use. The brass slots on the tools allow for these to be suspended with great accessibility.

The Robert Sorby Micro Carving Tool set contains all 12 items from the Micro Carving Tool range. It is available in both a polished wooden case or a display case. When the tools are not in use, the tools are 'topped and tailed' and fit securely so they can be carried. During use, the case also makes a very useful free-standing tool cabinet. The provision of additional slots in each of the two brass hanging rails allows the tools to be safely suspended and easily accessible.

The Sorby Sculpture tools feature the most widely used profiles for working large sections of timber. Massively proportioned yet beautifully balanced to handle heavy duty cuts as required.

All the tools are fitted with heavy duty double hooped handles and shock absorbing leather washers. They have an overall length of 13".
