Footprint have been based in Sheffield since 1875, when Thomas R. Ellin set up an engineering company, manufacturing a hand tool that he adapted from a simple implement made by a Sheffield hand grinder. This was to become the world-renowned Footprint wrench. Over 20 million of these have now been sold worldwide and are still being manufactured here today.
These beginnings paved the way for Footprint Tools to become one of the largest family owned, hand tool manufacturers in the UK. Footprint Tools, owned by the Jewitt family since 1948 are currently in their fourth generation of family members to work there. They are still working hard to keep Sheffield tool traditions at the forefront of the market with their wide range of tools for a variety of applications.
