NEW! Roberts & Lee Parkstone Musical Saw

The Parkstone Melody Saw is available in 3 sizes, 22", 26" and 30" and is made from fully ground carbon steel 80. This specially made saw uses incredibly flexible steel and allows the saw to be played with a bow when placed between the knees. The saw does have teeth but these are NOT sharpened or set as with normal woodcutting saws. We also take around 4" of the teeth off from the bottom end of the saw to ensure these do not catch on your clothes whilst playing.

We have developed our range of Musical Saws with the assistance of Charles Hindmarsh, The Yorkshire Musical Saw Player (www.playthesaw.co.uk) and have even got a guide that is available with these saws to help you get started. Our range is intended to cater for beginners and more advanced players with a range of budgets and catered for.

The 22" saw is more of a soprano saw and maybe somewhat easier for a child to play/beginner.
The 26" is a mid range saw but does cover a good range from A (below middle C) to top C.
The 30" is a bass saw and is capable of 2 and a half octaves - bottom F to top A

The length of the saw changes the depth of the sound.

We have two handle options which means we can cater for all budgets. This saw's original specification as per Roberts & Lee Saws (who made these this way prior to us purchasing this company), has a handle made from American Black Walnut. We have also added a beech handle range (standard handsaw handle shape) to offer a different budget option.

These saws can be played using any bow, I have selected a range of standard violin bows. We also have a "cheat" available which is the wood attachment often used to help bend the blade. This makes playing much more comfortable as the thumb can tire after playing for a while. Please select this if needed.

This is a great gift item for any musically inclined person, or anyone who fancies trying something a little different!

We have supplied these to many musicians across the UK and further away, including Sheffield's own Richard Hawley (Pulp member and 6 solo alblums including Cole's Corner, Lady's Bridge and his latest album Truelove's Gutter). Hawley's grandfather was a musical saw player which inspired him to use this instrument in his song "Don't Get Hung Up in Your Soul" (on the Truelove's Gutter album) played by David Coulter. Hawley bought 3 musical saws from us as a gift!

Some of the finest Handsaws available today. Hand- crafted of the finest alloy steel these saws are taper ground and breasted (meaning less teeth are in contact with the wood and therefore less friction) and are precisely set and sharpened by hand to ensure the best possible cut without binding. The latest addition to the Clifton plane family... the Clifton 770 Bull Nose plane. Made to the exacting specifications as all the other Clifton planes, this will certainly be a great purchase for those who want a quality bullnose plane. The 770 fulfills the need for a straight-forward bull nose plane enabling the user to plane close to an abutting section of wood and avoiding tear-out. It is a light handy plane often used for cutting rebate stop shoulders. The body is machined from quality grey iron castings and is precision ground on the sole and sides. The lever arm is also made of grey iron. The cutting iron fits smoothly onto the machined pad in the body and can be finely adjusted by means of the screw. The finish is bright ground and all edges have been rounded over to fit comfortably in the hand.

This plane has a cutter width of 1 1/8" (29mm) and is made from high quality oil hardened tool steel, 59-61 rockwell "C" hardness. The cutting edge is ground to 25 degrees primary and 30 degrees secondary.

Joseph Marples T14 'Trial 1' Mortice & Marking Gauge

The Joseph Marples T14 'Trial 1' Mortice and Marking Gauge is part of the Trial 1 range made from designs produced over 70 years ago. The Trial 1 range features some of the highest quality specifications expected in these measuring and marking tools. This Mortice and Marking Gauge has a full polished brass faced screwslide and has a full 1/8th inch thick brass face. The stock is locked on to the stem by either a polished steel locking turnscrew, or brass knurled thumbscrew (both supplied) and protective brass pressure pad. The locking screw is set within a traditional brass protective shield. A screw slide gives fine and precise adjustment of the mortice pins and on the back of the stem is a single marking gauge pin.

Robert Sorby Sovereign Ultima Hollowing System

The Sovereign Ultima is a new hollowing system from Robert Sorby. It forms part of the Sovereign System but is also a stand-alone tool in its own right. It is designed to enable the woodturner to produce hollow vessels up to 16" (400 mm) in depth. The Robert Sorby Draw Knives are made to a traditional English design. These items are still used in many traditional crafts by bodgers, chair-makers, period furniture-makers, cricket bat makers and green woodworkers. Designed for shaping wood and removing bark. The Robert Sorby Micro Carving Tool set contains all 12 items from the Micro Carving Tool range. It is available in both a polished wooden case or a display case. When the tools are not in use, the tools are 'topped and tailed' and fit securely so they can be carried. During use, the case also makes a very useful free-standing tool cabinet. This heavy duty timber framers and boat builders slick has an off-set blade to allow for clearance when working deep sockets and mortises, also used as a heavy duty paring chisel with no limits to reach due to its cranked neck. Made from a special high carbon alloy steel for a perfect combination of hardness and toughness. This ensures a razor sharp edge with outstanding edge retention.

The slick comes with a solid one piece forging including the heavy duty tang seated deep into the handle for security. An innovative heavy duty socket is fitted between the blade and the handle to make this one of the strongest and ergonomic framing chisels available on the market.

It is available in 2 3/8" and 3 3/8" wide blades with an overall length of 27".

The working face is machine ground in order to produce a slightly hollow surface for ease of honing and the back face is rounded off with no sharp edges for comfort and safety when handling the blade.

A heavy duty, riveted leather holster is also available for safe onsite working for each blade size.

The exclusive Crown Pro-PM turning tools are considered an elitist range in the woodturning world. These are made from Powder Metal, in which the molten steel has been compressed and sintered giving the Pro-PM turning tools a cutting edge which lasts up to 4-5 times longer than that of a conventional High Speed Steel tool. The chisels are hardened to between 66° and 68° Rockwell meaning the tools have a vastly superior wear resistance, excellent grind-ability and superior toughness. They also have a high working hardness that is retained over a lengthy working life. A traditional green woodworking tool, the drawknife is used for the removal of bark or for more fine finishing also. Used by bodgers, chair makers, furniture makers etc. This Ray Iles version has been designed by Mike Abbott to help adapt this traditional tool slightly. The difference being that the splayed handles are also bent slightly downwards so that you are working with your hands at approximately the same angle as your work piece, whichever way you are using the drawknife - back down or cannel down.

This is made from 01 high carbon tool steel and has turned beech handles with brass ferrules. Blade length: 8"
