One of the finest special chisel collections made in the world are brought to you by Robert Sorby... These are designed for the demanding craftsman, cabinet maker, furniture restorer and house builder. Many of these tools in this collection are exclusive to Robert Sorby - corner chisels and longer paring chisel. The face of each chisel has an indentation point. This is your guarantee of quality as it is the mark left by their diamond hardness tester. Each of these tools goes through this important process.

Forged from special Sheffield alloy steel, the combination of special steel and careful heat treatment gives a unique combination of edge retention and overall toughness which are the hallmarks of each Robert Sorby chisel. They are precision ground for extra accuracy and have their blades honed and lapped ready for use. The chisels have a robust or refined handle depending on specific application and are manufactured to British Standard BS1943 for woodworking chisels.

Their traditional, fine, slim shape coupled with precision grinding gives long thin bevels which avoid under-cutting.

Its orgins are inspired by the river Sheaf which runs beside the Sorby factory and has been one of the main driving forces behind the steel industry for more than four centuries in Sheffield.

The Robert Sorby Sheaf River Bevelled Edge Chisels combine the elasticity and hard wearing properties of sustainably sourced American Ash with the finest Sheffield steel and hand craftsmanship. These chisels are drop stamped from high carbon material blanks to produce a blade with an edge capable of being sharpened to half a micron - four times sharper than a disposable razor!

All these chisels are handmade by craftsmen using over 200 years of knowledge in tool production. A high level of quality control ensures each blade is diamond hardness tested before leaving the factory.

There are two types of the Bevelled Edge Chisels available:

The traditional bolster and ferrule version and the Tapered bolster and ferrule version.

This option is the Traditional Bolster and Ferrule version

This heavy duty timber framers and boat builders slick has an off-set blade to allow for clearance when working deep sockets and mortises, also used as a heavy duty paring chisel with no limits to reach due to its cranked neck. Made from a special high carbon alloy steel for a perfect combination of hardness and toughness. This ensures a razor sharp edge with outstanding edge retention.

The slick comes with a solid one piece forging including the heavy duty tang seated deep into the handle for security. An innovative heavy duty socket is fitted between the blade and the handle to make this one of the strongest and ergonomic framing chisels available on the market.

It is available in 2 3/8" and 3 3/8" wide blades with an overall length of 27".

The working face is machine ground in order to produce a slightly hollow surface for ease of honing and the back face is rounded off with no sharp edges for comfort and safety when handling the blade.

A heavy duty, riveted leather holster is also available for safe onsite working for each blade size.

The Robert Sorby 287 Heavy Duty Corner Chisel is also known as a "bruzze" and is a heavy duty version of the popular cabinet-maker's corner chisel. For cleaning up deep corners of mortices or other grooves. Sharpen each face individually using an oil stone. It is fitted with a rugged Ash handle to withstand heavy use.
